Beckwith
is
the Camp and Conference Center of the Episcopal Diocese of the Central
Gulf Coast, located on Weeks Bay in South Baldwin County, Alabama. A
beautiful bay-side retreat, Beckwith is set on 54 acres of tall pines
and landscaped open spaces. It is an ideal location for adult
conferences and workshops, family reunions, and youth retreats.
Founded in 1933 and named for the Rt. Rev. Charles Beckwith, fourth
bishop of the Diocese of Alabama, the center serves guests of all
denominations, races, and national origins. It is a great place to
study, confer, pray, or relax in attractive and secluded surroundings.
Lodging
and Meals: Southern Style
Beckwith
offers comfortable adult, hotel-style lodging, with individual climate
control, in Hardman Lodge, Cumming Lodge and Chason Lodge for up to 60
guests. Each of the 16 rooms in Hardman Lodge and each of the 4 rooms
in Chason Lodge are furnished with twin beds and a private bath; each
of the 10 rooms in Cumming have a double and a single bed with a
private bath. More rustic lodging is available in eight dormitories
(14 beds each) with common baths and our Staff Cottage (2 bedrooms, 5
beds each.) We offer an ideal setting for your retreat by appointing
our lodging rooms without everyday distractions like telephones and
televisions. Telephones are available for your use in Alves
Conference Center. Televisions are available for your meetings.
Good ol’
Southern home cooking is the specialty in the Wilson Dining Hall,
where meals are served family style. Though not fancy fare, our guests
consistently rate our food as “Excellent”
in post-conference surveys. Our friendly and courteous staff will help
make your experience here a happy and productive one.
Meeting
Space
There
are six meeting rooms for 15 to 200 people. The Hardman Lodge meeting
room comfortably seats 15 guests; the Staff cottage seats 20; the
Cumming Lodge meeting room seats up to 30; the 2 meetings rooms in the
Alves Center seats up to 80 in each room; and our Chapel/meeting room
seats 200. Audio-visual and other equipment is available at no
additional charge. Beckwith’s open green spaces also serve as
wonderful meeting areas in pleasant weather.
Challenge
by Choice
The
Beckwith Challenge Course helps groups build teamwork, increase
communication skills, and raise the level of group cooperation. The
course is ideal for Boards of Directors, Schools Groups, Youth Groups,
Management Teams or any group that desires to work together more
effectively. Individuals are encouraged to participate only to the
extent that they are comfortable. All activities are directly
supervised by highly trained instructors.

Location
Located
on beautiful Weeks Bay, Beckwith is an ideal natural environment for
retreat. The estuary waters of Weeks Bay teem with wildlife. Over 100
different varieties of birds have been sighted here. Nature trails
wind through the pine forest. Only 45 minutes from Mobile, Alabama,
and less than an hour from Pensacola, Florida, Beckwith is far enough
away to be “away,” yet close enough that valuable time is not wasted
traveling.

Tanger Center Outlet Mall
in Foley, Alabama, 15 miles to the east, has 115 outlet stores for the
avid shopper. Alabama’s most beautiful beaches are just 20 miles away
at Gulf Shores. Mobile, Alabama is just 45 minutes away and home to
beautiful Bellingrath Gardens, the
U.S.S. Alabama
Battleship, traditional southern homes, and many other
attractions. Pensacola, Florida, is 50 miles to the east and features
the
National
Museum of Naval Aviation,
and Naval Air Station--Pensacola.
